The Aggressives (2005) is a documentary that follows the day-to-day lives of several young Black and Brown masc-presenting New Yorkers. Throughout the film we see their grooming routines and safe spaces, and hear firsthand about their outlooks, goals, and how they self-identify. Through charming and vulnerable interviews, we catch a glimpse of what life was like for gender nonconforming people during a time when we didn’t yet have inclusive and expansive language around gender.
20 years later, we have the opportunity to view and honor these narratives from a different perspective, and introduce younger generations to nuanced stories of queer elders.
We invite you to join us at Ori Gallery on Oct 18th, 3-5pm for this screening, followed by some light discussion and fellowship. Refreshments and masks will be provided.
